This Chicken Fajita seasoning is made using the spices available at home. Before I begin with this recipe, I try to make my seasoning. In this, we'll be using Ground cumin, Smoked Paprika, Dried Oregano, Red Pepper Flakes, Black pepper powder, Salt, and Garlic Powder.
The hint of cumin, paprika, and oregano with a touch of lime juice makes these chicken fajitas on the go-t0 dinner recipes. The Bell Peppers along with fajita seasoned boneless skinless chicken breasts cut into strips feels so comforting when served on a homemade flour tortilla.

There could certainly be no recipe healthier than this. This Chicken Fajita recipe is so healthy. I have used lean chicken here. And, then you have the goodness of bell peppers to add more healthy points into the mix. The homemade seasoning is so healthy since it avoids added preservatives and addends. It also adds so much more fresh flavors to our chicken fajita. Generally, I serve this with my homemade flour tortilla. You can also serve this on a corn tortilla. I love to swap sour cream with Greek yogurt for that creamy texture. And, rather than using cheese, I like to add some red hot sauce. It brings the flavors together and improves the taste of chicken fajita drastically.
Ingredients to make Chicken Fajita Seasoning at home:
The Chicken Fajita seasoning is made using: Smoked Paprika+ Ground Cumin+Garlic Powder+ Red Pepper Flakes+ Dried Oregano+ Ground Black Pepper & Salt. Yup, these are the spices that you'll be needing. Just give all of this a good mix and your homemade chicken fajita seasoning is ready.
I try to avoid purchasing store-bought spice mix because it contains preservatives. And, you can store this homemade Chicken Fajita mix at your home for a long time. You can use it in your burger and turn it into a chicken fajita style burger. You can use it in your Pizza and make a chicken fajita style pizza. You can also use this to make chicken fajita style quesadilla.
How to Make Chicken Fajita?
Well, the recipe of Chicken fajita is known to every living soul on earth. It is so popular and so famous that there must be hardly anyone who might not know how to make chicken fajita.
However, I will try to give this popular Mexican recipe, my unique touch and I can tell you that you will love it!
- Make homemade chicken fajita seasoning. Mix Ground Cumin, Garlic Powder, Smoked Paprika, Red pepper flakes, dried Oregano, Ground Black pepper, and salt in a small bowl. This is your homemade chicken fajita seasoning. You can store this for a long time.
- Coat chicken breasts in the seasoning on both sides.
- Heat oil in a skillet. As the oil shimmers add boneless skinless chicken breasts coated with chicken fajita seasoning. Cook chicken until both sides get browned (3-5 minutes). You can check the doneness of the chicken using a Meat thermometer. It should be between 160F TO 165F.
- Once done, take the chicken off the skillet. Cut chicken breasts into thin strips. This is one of my favorite steps of making this recipe.
- In the same pan, add chopped red, green, and yellow bell peppers along with chopped onions. Let the veggies soak in all the flavors of beautiful chicken fajita seasoning. Stir lightly and add sliced chicken breasts into the pan. Squeeze Lime juice on the chicken. I just love the zesty touch that lime juice brings to the chicken. It literally freshness up the entire dish.
- Stir lightly and cover cook for about 2-3 minutes on medium-low heat. And, then serve immediately on a warmed flour tortilla.
- Garnish with sour cream/salsa/Pico de Gallo/Hot sauce/shredded cheese. Instead of Sour cream, I like to use Greek Yogurt. And, I do not use cheese at all. Rather I give it a spicy touch using a bit of red hot sauce.

- 3 Large Chicken Breasts boneless skinless
- 1 Medium-sized Red Onion you can also use yellow onion
- 1 Tablespoon Lime Juice
- 4 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- ½ Teaspoon Smoked Paprika
- ½ Teaspoon Ground Cumin
- ½ Teaspoon Dried Oregano
- ½ Teaspoon Garlic Powder
- ½ Teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
- ½ Teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
- Salt as per taste
Instructions
- In a small bowl or a plate combine smoked paprika, ground cumin, garlic powder, ground black pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, dried oregano, and salt.
- Now marinate chicken with chicken fajita seasoning.Heat some olive oil in a pan. As the oil gets hot, add chicken breasts individually. Do not crowd the pan or else they won't brown evenly. Allow each side to get brown completely. Once the chicken is just cooked, take it off the pan and keep it aside on a plate.
- In the same pan add sliced bell peppers and onions. Stir well to mix the fajita mix in the pan into your veggies on medium-low heat for at least 2-3 minutes.In the meantime, slice browned chicken breasts into thin strips.
- Now add sliced chicken breasts into the pan and stir well to combine. Cover cook on medium-low heat for 2-3 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through. Once done, take it off the heat.Squeeze lime on chicken fajita and serve on a flour tortilla or corn tortilla. Serve immediately with your desired toppings.

- Topping: You can top with sour cream. I prefer greek Yogurt. Along with that, you can add shredded cheese, pico de Gallo, Avocado, or Guacamole, and lettuce leaves. I like to add red hot sauce instead.
