What is Mango Mastani?
If you're from North India, or South India, or East India or any other part of the world, and wondering, what is Mango Mastani? What's the hullabaloo about Mango Mastani? Why is it on everyone's feed? What is Mango Mastani?
Well, let me break it up to you:-
Mango Mastani is a thick, creamy, indulgent Mango Shake with fresh ripe mangoes, sweet mango pulp, and creamy milk.
Why is it called Mango Mastani?
Served in a tall glass with mango ice cream, chopped mangoes, and your choice of nuts, and dry fruits.
You can say, that it tastes somewhat similar to a melted version of Mango Rabdi Kulfi.
It is called Mango Mastani, thanks to the tradition of Mastani being served in Pune from a long long time which everyone has always loved.
What Did I like about Mango Mastani?
I liked the thickness of Mango Mastani. Although, I was a bit disappointed with the addition of excess sugar because mangoes are naturally sweet and the ice cream plays a major role in this recipe.
A thick creamy Mango Ice cream will give you a better taste compared to a cheap mango ice cream.
I liked the melting of mango ice cream into this thick creamy Mango shake plus the tutti fruiti made it so much better.
I'm sure, you can go with your choice of dry fruits and nuts but tutti fruiti tasted really good 😊
What is Mastani in Pune?
So, basically the concept of Mastani is very old to Pune. In fact, Mastani served then used to be made of rose syrup, rose ice cream and it also had some ice cubes.
And, that's really tasty.
But, the difference between Mastani made during then and the Mango Mastani of today is - that with Mango Mastani the ice cream melts into the Mango shake and becomes 'creamier' and 'thicker' in consistency and there is no ice cubes to give it that water-y and thin taste.
