The Inspiration
Paneer Pakoras are something that I have been having since I was a kid. This recipe reminds me of my childhood days when my Grandma used to get so excited about making Paneer Pakoras at home. She used to be so careful with the Paneer Pieces, coated it with the utmost care, and tried so many alternatives with the same recipe over the years. Today, I thought of trying out the same recipe and guess what some oldies are always a goldie!
How to make Crispy Paneer Pakoda | Paneer Pakoras
Paneer Pakoras are so easy a recipe, you guys! It is just a basic Pakora recipe. However, for this, you don't need to grate the Paneer and then use it. We generally like to use whole Paneer cubes and coat it with the filling and then deep fry it.
This is so tasty you guys! It's actually my favorite. There is a crunch to these Pakoras and that's not because of Breadcrumbs or Maida or Rava. I have used some Besan / Chickpea Flour to make my coating and this is what gives this coating a good bind.
The coating for the Pakoras
So, I have used Boiled and Mashed Potatoes and I have spiced it up with some chopped Garlic, Chopped ginger, chopped green chilis and chopped coriander leaves. I have purposefully used chopped ginger and garlic because it'll give a nice bite to your recipe. If you're in a hurry then you can go ahead and use the store-bought Ginger-Garlic Paste in its place. Also, if you do not eat Ginger and Garlic, then just go ahead and skip it. This is anyway going to taste great!
When it comes to season this coating, I have used the staple which are salt, black pepper powder, red chili powder, some chaat masala, and of course some Besan (Gram/Chickpea Flour) to make this recipe.
You do not need any water or any oil to bind this together. Just mash the potatoes and mix everything using a spoon and knead to make a soft dough.
Wrapping the Paneer
Most people tell me that wrapping the Paneer is the most difficult thing about this recipe. Well, not exactly.
All you got to do is take a small ball of your potato mix and flatten it out. Put a panner cube in the center and carefully wrap it around. Roll it between your Palms and give it a nice oval shape and you're ready to fry it.
Other possible variations
Of course, like every other Indian recipe, there are countless other variations that you can do in this recipe.
- You can skip Potatoes and dip your Paneer cubes directly in a Besan and water dip and then fry it.
- You can add some cheese along with the Potatoes, to give this a cheesy twist.
- You can obviously use Maida or Cornflour or Breadcrumbs in place of Besan.
So, this was all about Crispy and Snacky Paneer Pakoras. I hope you liked this recipe. If you make this recipe, then please provide a rating to this recipe and comment on your reviews below. Also, tag me on Instagram with #twinskirasoi if you liked this recipe.
