- Whole Spices - I use Whole Cinnamon, Cardamom, Cumin and Cloves
- Cashew Nuts - This makes the curry super silky and smooth
- Ginger & Green Chilis - Since this recipe does not use garlic so instead I have just used chopped Ginger and Green Chilis.
- Spices - Turmeric, Red Chili Powder, Coriander Powder, Garam Masala and Salt.
- Fresh Cream - this makes the Shahi Paneer super creamy and smooth
- Kasuri Methi - this gives a subtle aroma and fragrance to the curry.
How to make No Onion No Garlic Shahi Panner
Step 1: Roast the spices
- Heat Ghee in a wok or kadhai
- Add Whole Spices, Cashew Nuts, chopped Ginger, Green Chilis and Tomatoes
- Saute until fragrant for 2-3 min over medium high heat.
Step 2: Make a Paste
- First of all, cool down the roasted masala
- Add it to a high speed blender along with some water
- Blend it into a smooth puree,
Step 3: Making the curry
- Add ghee in the wok
- Pour in the Puree you just made of roasted spices and nuts
- Cook over low heat for 3-4 minutes
- Add Turmeric, Red Chili Powder, Coriander Powder, Garam Masala, and Salt.
- Toss to combine everything.
- Pour in some water and bring the curry to a slow boil
Step 4: Garnish and serve
- Add the chopped Paneer to the curry
- Garnish with some fresh cream and Kasuri Methi
- Serve hot with Roti or Paratha or Jeera Rice.
Storage & Make Ahead
- You can make this No onion and No Garlic gravy and store it in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
- You can even store it in an airtight container in the freezer for upto three months.
- Whenever you want to use it, thaw it overnight in the refrigerator and reuse is.
- You can repurpose this same curry without onion and garlic to make any other curry with Potato or Bhindi or any other veggies of your choice.
Serving Suggestions
You can serve this Paneer recipe with Plain rice or Jeera rice. Also if you love Roti or Paratha you can serve this with your choice of favourite Paratha or homemade Rotis.

No Onion No Garlic Shahi Panner
Ingredients
- 250 gm Paneer cut into 1" cubes
- 2 tbsp Ghee
- 1 stick Cinnamon
- 2 pods Green Cardamom
- ½ tsp Whole Cumin
- ½ tsp Whole Cloves
- 1 cup Cashew Nuts
- 1 medium sized Tomato finely chopped
- 2-3 Green Chilis
- 1 inch ginger chopped
- ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
- ½ tsp Red Chili Powder
- ½ tsp Coriander Powder
- ½ tsp Garam Masala
- ¼ cup Fresh Cream
- ½ tsp Kasuri Methi
Instructions
- Heat Ghee in a wok. Add the whole spices, cashew nuts, chopped Tomatoes, green chilis, ginger and saute for 3-4 minutes over medium high heat.
- Cool down the mixture and blend into a smooth puree with some water in a high speed blender.
- Add some more ghee in the same wok and add the puree. Add Turmeric Powder, Red Chili Powder, Coriander Powder, Garam Masala and Salt. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the Paneer and some water. Bring the curry to a slow boil.
- As the gravy thickens, turn off the heat. Serve in a bowl. Garnish with fresh cream and crushed Kasuri Methi.
